Both primary and secondary students in Kinsale were privileged to have Richard Moore address them when he spoke of his story recently in Kinsale Community School.
Richard was invited to Kinsale by the Kinsale Peace Project. As a ten year old child Richard was stuck in the face by a rubber bullet during the troubles in Derry and as a result lost his eyesight. Rather than making him bitter this experience led Richard to ‘see life in a different way.' He is a humanitarian who works through his charity Children in Crossfire to eradicate childhood poverty. The Dalai Lama is patron of the charity and recently visited Richard in Northern Ireland.
Richard recently appeared on the Late Late Show together with the soldier who shot him and used the occasion to promote peace and forgiveness. He has written a best selling book titled ‘Can I Give Him My Eyes" about his life.
Both primary and secondary students who were lucky enough to hear Richard were moved by his talk and his humanity. The schools in Kinsale are very lucky to have people like Richard address them and this is thanks to the hard work of the Kinsale Peace Project.
