BirdWatch Ireland Talk
Many thanks to Jim Wilson from BirdWatch Ireland for giving 1A8 an interesting and informative talk on different bird species and the important role they play in our world. 1A8 are currently completing a project for the Young Environmentalist Awards competition. Their project is called “Bringing Birds Back.” They have recently made their own bird feeders out of waste materials and hung them around the school grounds. They are regularly washing them out and refilling them with bird feed. They plan to grow their own sunflowers on the school grounds to feed the birds. 1A8 are currently working on creating a podcast and a book on the Irish birds who are most at risk and why. As part of their project, they decided they wanted to educate themselves and others about the topic, as a result, they invited Jim Wilson from BirdWatch Ireland to speak to them and inform them on how they can help our native birds.
Jim provided students with some very interesting insights, he provided them with tips on what food to put out to attract different bird species. He also provided students with a list of birds that are currently on our red list. Lastly, he presented ways we can make our garden, a more safe and attractive environment for our native birds.
Thanks to Jim for giving the time to share his expertise, well done to 1A8 for organising the talk and best of luck in the YEA Competition.
