Féilte Scoile 2025 – Kinsale Community School Showcases Innovation in Teaching, Learning and Wellbeing

Kinsale Community School hosted its annual Féilte Scoile on 1 October 2025, a flagship event in the school calendar which celebrates excellence and innovation in teaching and learning. This year’s event placed a particular focus on the theme of Wellbeing, highlighting how evidence-based approaches and shared professional expertise can enhance both student and staff experience.

The event was officially opened by Principal, Mr Fergal McCarthy, who commended the staff of Kinsale Community School for their ongoing commitment to pioneering pedagogical approaches and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

“Féilte Scoile is a celebration of the exceptional work that takes place in classrooms every day,” Principal, Mr McCarthy said. “It reflects our belief in the power of shared practice and our commitment to supporting the wellbeing of every member of our school community.”

The event was organised by Mr Gerard O’Callaghan and featured a comprehensive series of workshops facilitated by members of the teaching staff. These workshops explored a range of perspectives on wellbeing — from adolescent brain development and coaching strategies to the impact of the tutor system and the role of technology in reducing workload.

A series of workshops examined adolescent development and its implications for teaching and learning:

Coaching for Wellbeing
Laura Ann Dunne & Kevin Madigan demonstrated how coaching methodologies can equip both students and staff with the tools to recognise, regulate, and respond to everyday challenges, building resilience and fostering a positive school culture.

The Positive Impact of the Tutor System for Students and Staff
Cliona O’Shaughnessy & Elaine Bennett explored the important role of the tutor system in strengthening relationships, promoting student wellbeing, and supporting staff in their pastoral responsibilities.

Using Technology to Reduce Workload for Teachers and Students
Caitriona Leahy, Amy Harrington, and students highlighted how digital tools such as OneNote can streamline tasks, reduce correction time, and enhance student engagement. The session emphasised how technology, when used effectively, can support wellbeing by reducing workload and freeing up time for deeper learning.
