KCS Rugby Homecoming: A Historic Double Qualification

Kinsale Community School rugby has reached an extraordinary milestone with both our Senior and Junior teams qualifying for the Munster Schools Cup competitions for the first time in the school’s history — a remarkable achievement that has captured attention across Munster sport.

On Wednesday, 17 December, our Junior Cup team secured a thrilling 12–10 victory over Midleton CBS at Virgin Media Park, with tries from Ryan Harrington and Zach Ridgway and a decisive conversion from Darragh O’Sullivan sealing the win. This hard-fought performance ensured the school’s maiden qualification for the Junior Cup competition.

Shortly afterwards, the Senior Cup side completed a remarkable double by defeating Hamilton High School, Bandon, 20–12, in their qualifier. Tries from Gearóid Whelton, Ryan Cusack and Riain Walsh demonstrated the Senior team’s strength and tactical discipline as they secured their place in the Munster Schools Senior Cup for the first time.

This historic double — qualifying for both competitions in the same season — reflects the tremendous growth and depth of rugby within KCS. From the Junior side’s resilience to the Seniors’ composed display under pressure, these performances have set a new benchmark for the school’s rugby programme.

As a result of their victories, the Junior team will travel to face Crescent College Comprehensive in Limerick, and the Senior squad will play Glenstal Abbey away in the new year as part of the next stages of their respective competitions.

To celebrate this outstanding achievement and to welcome our teams home, the school will host a KCS Rugby Homecoming event — an opportunity for students, staff, families and supporters to come together and recognise the hard work, talent and commitment shown by our players and coaching teams throughout this historic season.

Congratulations to all players, coaches and supporters involved. This is a proud moment for our school community — and we look forward to cheering our teams on in the knockout stages.
