KCS Sponsored Walk 2026 – A Day of Community and Spirit

Kinsale Community School was alive with Halloween spirit on Friday, 23rd October, as students and staff swapped their everyday looks for spooky disguises at the much-anticipated KCS Annual Sponsored Walk. Organised by Deputy Principal Ms Kathleen O’Brien, the 7km walk brought our school community together for a day of frightful fashion, laughter and fundraising.

Ghosts, witches and a colourful cast of creepy characters filled the route, with students and staff embracing the Halloween theme in wonderfully creative ways. From spine-chilling outfits to clever costume combinations, there was plenty to admire - and perhaps a little to fear! Classes set off together in high spirits, making this Halloween adventure a memorable celebration of the friendship and community spirit that define KCS.

Behind every successful spooky outing is a dedicated team keeping everyone safe. Sincere thanks to Ms Hay for conducting a comprehensive risk assessment, and to our caretakers, Brendan and Janos, who were out early putting safety and direction signs in place. A special thank you to John Corcoran and Thomas Clancy, who drove the route early that morning, removing fallen branches, wheelie bins and other debris from the road to ensure a clear and safe path for our Halloween walkers. Our Transition Year students and staff volunteers traded ghostly disguises for high-visibility vests as they stewarded the route and guided walkers with care. Students also ensured that the only traces left behind were memories, following a “leave no trace” approach throughout the walk.

Adding a lively soundtrack to the Halloween celebrations, Dylan Homann, assisted by Liam Buckley, Luke O’Shea and Colin Corkery, kept spirits high as the day’s DJs, coordinated by Ms Marie Hayes. Thank you also to Ms Tracy Fleming for organising the school shop, and to the students whose bake sale provided tempting treats while raising funds for KYSS and Edel House.

From the first spooky arrival to the final steps of the walk, the day was filled with creativity, generosity and good humour. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, dressed up, volunteered, walked and supported the event. Together, you made this year’s Sponsored Walk a screaming success!
