KCS Sponsored Walk 2025 – A Day of Community, Spirit & Giving

Our school community came together in brilliant Halloween style on Friday, 24th October, for the much-anticipated KCS Annual Sponsored Walk. Organised by Deputy Principal, Ms Kathleen O’Brien, the 7km walk was a wonderful display of school spirit, community support, and charitable giving.

This year, the funds raised will support three outstanding causes:

  • Kinsale Youth Support Services & Community Centre

  • Oscar’s Kids Paediatric Cancer Charity

  • Mental Health Supports for KCS Students (including counselling)

In addition, Movember was promoted on the day, shining a light on men’s health and wellbeing.

The entire school took part, with students and staff fully embracing the Halloween theme. From spooky ghosts and classic witches to clever costume mashups, creativity was on full display. Many students also sported Movember moustaches, adding fun and awareness to the event. Classes set off together and completed the walk with great enthusiasm, reinforcing the strong sense of community and solidarity that defines KCS.

Thank you to Ms Hay and Mr Cierans, who conducted a comprehensive risk assessment to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for everyone. A special word of thanks to our caretakers, Brendan and Janos, who were out early erecting safety and direction signs along the route. Our Transition Year students and staff volunteers acted as stewards along the route, wearing high-visibility vests and guiding walkers with care. Students also showed their commitment to environmental responsibility by following a strict “leave no trace” approach, ensuring that no litter was left behind.  Adding to the festive atmosphere, Luke McCarthy and Luke O’Brien were our DJs, bringing music and energy to the day. Thank you also to Ms Tracy Flemming for organising the school shop, and to the students who are running a bake sale to raise funds for the Hope Foundation.

The Sponsored Walk was more than just a fun day—it was a powerful example of what can be achieved when a school community comes together for a shared purpose.

Thank you to everyone who donated, dressed up, volunteered, walked, and supported this event. Your efforts have made a real difference to our charities and created a day that will be remembered across the school community.
