Rang Réalta Explore Their School and Local Community
This term, our Rang Réalta Class have been busy learning all about “Living in the Community” as part of their Level 2 Learning Programme.
Students began by exploring their school community, learning about the many important people who help keep our school running every day. They visited and spoke with our school secretaries and receptionists, caretakers, cleaning staff, and deputy principals. Each group shared how their work supports students and staff, and our students had the chance to ask questions and learn more about the roles they play in our daily school life.
Armed with the school camera, students navigated the school independently, capturing photos and documenting their learning along the way. It was a wonderful opportunity to build communication and practical life skills.
A highlight of the term was a very special visit from Nurse Aisha McCarthy, who came to talk to the class about the important work nurses do in our local community. Students were fascinated as Nurse McCarthy explained how nurses help people stay healthy and care for those who are sick.
They also got to try out real medical equipment, including burn plasters, a stethoscope, a blood pressure monitor, and even an oxygen mask. There were plenty of smiles and laughter as everyone took turns being a “patient” and a “nurse.” Nurse McCarthy was so impressed with their enthusiasm and excellent listening that she even gave them a special treat at the end of the visit!
This learning experience has helped students understand their community, build confidence in communicating with others, and develop independent life skills.
A special thank you goes to their teachers Ms Maria Brosnan, Ms Laurie McCarthy and Ms Therese McCarthy, as well as their wonderful classroom assistants Lydia Minihane and Claire McCarthy for their support, guidance, and creativity in making this learning journey so meaningful for the students.
We are so proud of Rang Réalta for their curiosity, teamwork, and enthusiastic participation throughout this project.
