6th Year Geography Trip to Garrylucas Beach
On Thursday, 18th September, our 6th Year Geography students completed their Leaving Certificate Geographical Investigation, which accounts for 20% of their final grade. The students travelled to Garrylucas Beach to investigate coastal erosion.
Armed with clinometers, trundle wheels, ranging poles, measuring tapes, and callipers, the students carried out a variety of fieldwork activities. These included measuring cliff height, conducting a fabric analysis, carrying out a wave survey, and measuring the wave-cut platform. Each task enabled them to collect primary data for their written reports, which they began once back at school.
The investigation provided a valuable opportunity for students to apply classroom learning to a real-world setting. They experienced firsthand the challenges of fieldwork, including unpredictable weather conditions, while also learning the importance of teamwork, accuracy, and safety.
It was an enjoyable and educational day for all involved!
