Supporting Success in First Year Algebra: Parent Workshop Evening

Following on from the success of the Sets and Introduction to Algebra workshop delivered in November by Ms A. O’Mahony and Ms Cotter, we were delighted to host a further Algebra workshop for parents of First Year students on Monday evening.

This engaging and practical session was designed to support parents in helping their children with Maths at home. The workshop focused on key Algebra concepts currently being explored in class, including variables, expressions and solving equations. Parents were introduced to clear, accessible strategies for explaining these ideas using everyday language and practical examples.

The session also explored common misconceptions students may encounter and offered guidance on how to address these with confidence. Through interactive examples, parents saw how Algebra underpins real-life problem-solving, helping to make the subject more meaningful and relevant for students.

Attendees received sample questions, practical resources and helpful tips for encouraging positive study routines and mathematical confidence at home. The workshop provided a welcoming space for discussion, questions and shared experiences.

We greatly value the partnership between home and school, and this event once again highlighted the positive impact of working together to support students’ learning. Overall, it was an informative and successful evening, and we thank all parents who attended.
