Kinsale Film Series and Filmmaker Talks
We are delighted to announce the launch of a new Kinsale Film Series & Filmmaker Talks at Kinsale Community School. Hosted by local filmmaker couple Ayla Amano and Brendan Canty, the series will showcase outstanding Irish films alongside engaging conversations with the filmmakers behind them, all taking place in our school theatre.
The inaugural event will take place on Thursday, 19th March, featuring a special screening of Brendan’s debut feature film, Christy. The film recently received the Best Film and Best Director awards at the Irish Film and Television Academy Awards. Christy premiered at the Berlinale Film Festival last year, where it won the Grand Prix for the Generation 14+ Programme, and subsequently went on to win Best Irish Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh.
Christy is a moving story of a teenager’s search for belonging and the healing power of community. Filmed on Cork City’s northside, the production features an impressive cast of local actors, including members of the Kabin Studio.
Following the screening, audiences are invited to enjoy a relaxed Q&A with Kinsale-based director Brendan Canty, who will share insights into his creative process and the making of Christy.
