Public Speaking Workshop for 1st Year Students
On 1 May, Ms Brigita Gallagher coordinated and delivered a public speaking workshop for first-year students aimed at building confidence and developing communication skills for future learning and Junior Cycle presentations. The initiative grew from the work of the Teaching and Learning team, led by Mr Iggy Dineen, with valuable support and guidance from Ms Aoife O’Mahoney following the groupwork study skills workshop.
A dedicated team of Transition Year students helped facilitate the workshop by supporting small-group activities and encouraging participation throughout the session, which took place in the school theatre. Fifth-year student Muireann O’Donovan also made an important contribution by assisting with the presentation and helping to guide activities on the day.
The workshop focused on active participation, teamwork, peer support, and practical skill development. Students engaged enthusiastically in all activities, and it was wonderful to see their confidence and enjoyment grow throughout the session.
The success of the event reflected strong collaboration across year groups and staff. Sincere thanks to Ms Gallagher for coordinating the workshop, Ms O’Mahony for her guidance, Mr Dineen for his leadership of the Teaching and Learning team, the Transition Year students for their support, and Muireann O’Donovan for her contribution on the day. As a result, students showed increased confidence in public speaking and a greater willingness to participate in future presentations.
